Hugalina and Kissalina are the most affectionate twin Goops in all of Goop World — Hugalina hugs everything in sight whether it asks for it or not, and Kissalina never meets anything without first reaching for her shimmering pot of vanilla lip balm. When a mysterious glowing pink rock at the edge of the meadow hums back at them, the twins do the only thing they know how to do: Hugalina wraps it in her gold-trimmed blanket and Kissalina presses her lips to its surface — and the rock pulls them both straight into its rosy center.

They land with an enormous splash in the extraordinary bubblegum-pink waters of Lake Retba in Senegal, where salt harvesters move through the shallows with flat baskets on their heads and pink pelicans stand unbothered on the shore. But when a fallen basket disturbs the living microorganisms that give the lake its color, the water turns a deep, ominous red — and something beneath the surface begins to pull.

Will Kissalina's most prized possession be enough to calm a lake that has been alive longer than anyone can remember? And what does a Senegalese salt harvester know about love that the twins are only just beginning to understand? This is a story about the most powerful force in the world — and it isn't strength, and it isn't cleverness.
