Dr. Grant and C.H.I.P.S. prepare the ship for their annual National Learning Day celebration. Dr. Floyd, acting quite miserly, calls National Learning Day, "Humbug" saying he has learned all there is to possibly learn. Later that night he's visited by the spirit of his long lost protege Dr. Doug who warns of the coming of three spirits. The first spirit, the Ghost Of Learning Past, shows Dr. Floyd how much learning was part of his, sometimes painful, past.
