This fund pledges to involve indigenous communities in its effort to improve biodiversity. An ICCA consortium report finds that the indigenous tribes conserve more than 20% of our forests. Whereas, the government controlled wildlife parts cover about 14% of our forests. They also found that the quality of ecological balance maintained by the indigenous communities through their practices was fairly good, and in some cases, superior to the government controlled forest areas. This is the first time that the contribution by the indigenous communities has been acknowledged on a global platform by philanthropists. Link to the report can be found here
In a study by the University of Washington, pups that stayed active when young were found to be mentally strong as they grew older, and avoided dementia.
