DB 198: How Forgetting The National Anthem In Front Of 20,000 People Can Be “Perfect.”
07:11 | Episode: 198 | May 4th, 2020

Eva wanted to take a break from the Pandemic-related content for the week, and share an incredibly touching story that has recently resurfaced. It’s the story of Natalie Gilbert, who in 1993 at the age of 13, forgot the lyrics of the National Anthem in front of 20,000 fans at a NBA playoff game. The biggest moment of Natalie’s life quickly became the most terrifying. The whole stadium went silent — yet one man, Maurice Cheeks, came to Natalie’s rescue and exhibited an act of kindness that forever changed Natalie’s life. What’s even more remarkable is how Natalie did not let a performer’s worst nightmare destroy her dream, and thanks to Maurice Cheeks she even now describes the experience as “perfect.” We are thrilled to share this feel-good story of kindness during these challenging times. We also encourage you to watch the full news segment, which we linked to in the show notes at DreamBigPodcast.com/198

S1 E10: It’s the Final Meltdown
00:36:56 | Season: 1 | Episode: 10 | April 28th, 2020

Brand new problem? Fake news? Yeah, no!! More like should be totally obvious, is super real, and has been attempted to be hidden for literal decades!! Climate change may seem like a thoroughly modern problem, but scientists have been exploring the question of the earth’s climate for over a hundred years. And while early theories may have been more concerned with predicting ice ages and the outcome of volcanic eruptions some things they discovered still hold up today. History is the story of human nature. What we choose to pursue, whose voices we value, all of that. Knowing that we knew early and didn’t do anything just goes to show that you can have all the information, perfect science, but it doesn’t really matter if people aren’t willing to listen to it. So the next big question is: how do you get people to listen? And why do they choose not to sometimes? I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future, how everything will unfold, if robots will save us, or if we find a way to connect back to nature, but I’m more sure than I ever have been, that we’re not out of time…that we can handle it…Together. **This episode feature an interview with: ** Nathaniel Rich: Nathaniel is an awesome writer of both fiction and nonfiction. His book Losing Earth: A Recent History is all about the existence of the scientific evidence for global warming for decades and the reasons why we collectively failed to listen to it. His research focuses on understanding the fate and transport of organic compounds, organic contaminants in particular, in the environment and on the microbial processes which control carbon cycling in both contaminated and natural environments. The common theme in his research is to understand the fundamental processes that control the environment around us and the impact that life, including industrial society, has on the environment and vice versa. DB 197: Here’s Where I’ve Found The Most Joy During This Crisis
05:05 | Episode: 197 | April 27th, 2020

We have definitely noticed that Eva’s happiest moments during this crisis have been out in nature. Whether that’s been on bike rides or walks in the neighborhood (practicing social distancing of course), or sitting on the low climbing tree in our yard, or escaping with the family to an off-the-beaten-path hiking trail — these times in nature have been pure magic for our family. In this episode, Eva shares the scientifically proven health benefits of nature, and how being outside has been so therapeutic during these challenging times. We highly encourage you to get your kids outside — of course keeping in mind the health guidelines and law for your local communities. Show notes at DreamBigPodcast.com/197
